Featuring structures built during the 18th and 19th century, Historic Halifax State Historic Site is comprised of preserved historic buildings and items, giving visitors a chance to explore and learn about the community's past. The visitor center offers exhibits depicting the town’s history, a short video, hands-on demonstrations and guided tours. Halifax's jail, cemetery and tavern, along with several residence homes and the town's central Market Square are just some of the attractions available for self-guided exploration. The site lies in downtown Halifax, approximately 12 miles south of downtown Roanoke Rapids.
